a favorite hobby.

I love love love grocery shopping! It seriously puts me in such a great mood =P I especially love checking out new grocery stores to see what their selection is. That’s what I did today, and I ended up with some great new finds. I usually go to Acme or Genuardi’s because they’re the closest, but today I ventured to Giant because I had been in there a few times and remember them having a legit natural/organic foods section. Let’s just say I was browsing those aisles for at least 30 minutes…

I restrained myself from buying everything in sight, and I actually stuck to my list (for the most part :) ). I came home with a decent amount of goodies:

I couldn’t wait to break into the container of organic dates. I see them everywhere on blogs, so I was anxious to see what all of the fuss was about. I’ll be honest…I’ve been hesitant to try them because they look like prunes (which I despise, bleh). Why didn’t anyone tell me how to die these babies are?!?!

I snacked on 2, but easily could’ve downed the entire container. I forsee some hot dates in my very near future ;)

I also picked up a salad for lunch because they’re salad bar was too gorgeous to pass up. For dressing I whisked together sugar free blackberry preserves, coconut oil, and balsamic vinegar:

I took out some frustration and shook the salad to death, and voila:

This salad had so many awesome flavors going on! It included spring mix, baby spinach, broccoli, peppers, carrots, beets, chicken, ham, chick peas, egg white, feta cheese, and artichoke hearts.

I love eating monster-sized salads because it’s basically like getting all of my veggie servings in one punch. I could almost hear my body saying “thank you” while I was eating it :P

For something sweet I broke into a Luna Protein Bar (Cookie Dough).

I absolutely love regular Luna Bars *cough* White Chocolate Macadamia is my drug *cough* so I was excited to see what this new line was like. It was much smaller than I anticipated, but still quite dense and filling. The Cookie Dough flavor was pretty decent! Unlike other protein bars, it did actually taste like real cookie dough.

Overall, I liked it! I can’t say I’d choose this over regular Luna Bars, though. But compared to other protein bars, it’s definitely a winner.

I’m not really sure what’s in store for the rest of my day at this point, but I can honestly say I’m having a great Saturday. It just feels good not having any commitments or responsibilities to take care of, you know?

Ta-ta for now. Be sure to check back later for a post that I’ve been working on all day =) xoxo G

Do you enjoy grocery shopping?

Do you usually stick to your list? Or end up with some unaccounted for purchases? =P

  • I love love LOVE grocery shopping. It’s just fun to discover new products, find savings, and combine new foods! And I’m with ya on the giant salad; getting such a veggie punch all at once is the best. I haven’t tried the new luna protein bars yet, but I don’t really see the point? The regular ones taste fine to me and usually have like 9 grams…whatevs.

Hope the rest of your Saturday is awesome!

  • Hey girlie! I too LOVE grocery shopping! Sometimes I will just wander around staking the place out before I actually get a cart and go to work.

I’ve been the same way about trying dates… maybe i’ll follow your lead. We are heading to the grocery store tonight after church!!!

  • u need to split each medjool date and “stuff” it with nut butter and stuff…toss them in cereal, etc…i have a big tub of them too…

  • my review about the luna bar is the exact same!! i agree.. i wouldn’t pick it over the white chocolate macadamia luna or chocolate peppermint stick, but it is pretty good. and is that peter pan nut butter i spot? ahh reminds me of the good old days <3

@Shelley – ahh yes, it is Peter Pan! But not just any Peter Pan…it’s *whipped* peanut butter. I’m sure it’s loaded with chemicals and what not, but it is seriously SO GOOD. I couldn’t pass it up :P

  • I need to find some dates to try, I’ve seen them everywhere, too! And grocery shopping is one of my all time favorite things to do. Many of my friends think I am odd, but it is SO relaxing to me. :)

  • I LOVE THE COOKIE DOUGH LUNA!
you are so right about your friends girl! for real, i am WAYY hungrier when i eat more! so weird how that happens. im so glad you are right there with me tho!!!
do you have a twitter or a facebook?! lets be friends! yay!

  • I LOVE grocery shopping, my parents always leave if off when I come home because they know I’ll want to stock up! The PB Luna Proteins are my fave, they taste like a butterfinger!! Stay dry girly!

  • lol yay hot dates in your future!! i think you’ll enjoy. i agree, the luna proteins are good but i still think i prefer the regular lunas, esp the WCM flava! grocery shopping is a major hobby of mine as well

  • I love grocery shopping too! Checking out new locations is a must and I’m lucky to have a friend that puts up with it although she doesn’t quite understand the obsession. Sticking to lists isn’t something I do, in fact, I hardly ever make lists. Winging it is fun. :)

  • Glad to see you had a successful trip! I won’t get into how much I love grocery shopping since I rambled about it so much to you earlier, haha. But of course I LURVEE going to new stores even more. When I get my occassional Hannafords trip in, I go a little crazy.
I always try to make a list before I go – otherwise, I forget what I need and wind up purchasing MORE jams, grains, and experimental foods, haha. That and – it’s a fun activity for when you have nothing better to do :P
I don’t even want to know how dangerous I’ll be when I FINALLY get to go to a Trader Joes or Whole Foods for the first time ever…I’ll probably be poor for quite some tie afterwards, though!
And YES on the dates!! I just finished the last of mine this morning – luckily, tomorrow is grocery day ;)

@katie – my twitter is /GirlMeetsHealth :D I do have a Facebook but not sure how to give you a link for that….? Haha I’m lame. What’s yours?!

  • Oh gosh, I ADORE grocery shopping. I tell people that it’s my hobby :D And the sad thing is, it’s true!!! When I’m sad or upset, I’ll go to Whole Foods and wham… i’m in a great mood!! Haha seriously though, I could browse grocery stores forever. It’s SO hard for me to go in and out quickly. I always make a list but I usually add to it on the spur of the moment.

  • I loooovvveee grocery shopping! I don’t really ever take a list I just know what staples I need (like spinach and bananas) and then pick up whatever I’m feeling while I’m there. Plus some new finds!

  • Oh I LOVE grocery shopping. I always tell my mom to wait for me when i’m coming home soon and we always do a massive trip together within a day of my return….like we did today :)

Dates are SO delicious! Blog world got me into them too, since I had never tried them before–definitely try them with some almond or peanut butter AND a few carob or chocolate chips if you’re feeling creative–that’s a fave of mine!!

  • I JUST bought dates earlier this week and now i’m HOOKED. Betcha can’t just eat one!
